Walters, W. Ilfracombe: A health resort. Ilfracombe: John Tait, 1878. p. 60. At many points there are paths leading to the beaches which well repay a visit, but should scarcely be ventured on without a guide. At Lynton, a rocky projection overhanging the Barnstaple Road, and named Mount Sinai, reached by a narrow path leading to the left, is a point from which a glorious view of the romantic surrounding scenery is obtained, and in the early summer when the trees are in full leaf, the flowers in bloom, and all nature clad in her bright new livery of green and refreshed by her long winter sleep, there are few spots on this beautiful earth that can compare with this same Lynton.
