Cooke, G. A. A topographical and statistical description of the county of Devon. London: Sherwood & Co., c.1830. p. 311. This place exhibits a remarkable example of rapid creation. It now ranks as one of the most esteemed watering-places, possessing all the advantages of the south-western climate in the highest degree; and, with the exception of its exposure to the south-west winds, partakes less of the disadvantages of it than any other place, having accommodation for invalids. A beautiful terrace has been recently finished, and an additional one on a grand scale will shortly be completed.
