Carrington, N.T., and others. The Teignmouth, Dawlish, and Torquay guide. Teignmouth: E. Croydon, 1829. pp. 33-4.We have observed, that, even locally considered, Teignmouth has many pretensions to a novelty of objects, which will always excite considerable interest. The River Teign is of course the principal feature in the picture. From the river leaving the western town, a gay scene is ever presented to the view, by the constant passage of vessels of various classes. The traveller is on its banks anxiously awaiting the return of the passage-boat, - carriages are beheld descending the declivity on the opposite shore - fishermen are observed mending their nets - the hills with their mighty slopes rise over the spectator's head, - the promontory near the charming retreat of Shaldon, rushes to the deep, and a thousand minute objects, successively presenting themselves, all contribute to form a coup d'il of unrivalled interest and beauty.[Text may be taken from a different source or edition than that listed as the source by Somers Cocks.]
