Scope and Content
Polwhele, Revd. Richard. The history of Devonshire. London: Cadell, Dilly & Murray, 1793-1806. Vol. III. p. 448.Marystow, in this parish, is a most romantic place. There is a peculiar greatness in the genius of the scene. The rocks here boldly projecting, or there breaking thro' masses of foliage, the river opening in the distant valley, the extensive sweep of forest trees along the heights, and the gloom of the woods where the hills mingle with the blue horizon, have, altogether, a grandeur beyond description.[Text may be taken from a different source or edition than that listed as the source by Somers Cocks.]
