Tugwell, The Rev. George. The North Devon scenery-book. 2nd Edition. London: Simpkin, Marshall, & Co. ; Ilfracombe: John Banfield, 1863. p. 152.Afterwards we accomplish a successful ramble over the Torrs, which to my mind are by far the highest attraction which Ilfracombe has to offer. There is an undesirable toll exacted from all visitors, and the approach to the walks is not clean in damp weather, nor too agreeable in any weather. It would well repay any enterprising "Board of Health" to secure these walks to the public, and make the approaches as pleasant and easy as possible.[Text may be taken from a different source or edition than that listed as the source by Somers Cocks.]
