Scope and Content
A Devonian. [T. H. Williams]. Devonshire scenery; or, directions for visiting the most picturesque spots on the eastern and southern coast, from Sidmouth to Plymouth. Exeter: W. C. Pollard, 1827. p. 13.Marypole Head, the rising ground 1 mile to the north of Exeter, commands a general view of the whole extent of the city and river to Exmouth; Stoke Hill, about the same distance to the north east, possesses nearly the same advantage. On the opposite side of the river, between Exwick on its banks, and the steep hill towards Whitstone, is the finest view of the city and river as a whole; it embraces all the characteristic points which are seen, but in part, from either of the other positions.[Text may be taken from a different source or edition than that listed as the source by Somers Cocks.]
