[1825?]
A guide to the Chudleigh Rocks and surrounding scenery. Chudleigh: The Weekly Express Office, 1867. pp. 5 - 6.There is no inland scenery in Devon or even in England that presents a more varied and picturesque beauty than the vale in which Chudleigh is situated. Polwhele may well say, "For the picturesque views which this parish affords, they are really so romantic as to beggar description."[
] At a distance in the west, the vale is sheltered by a boundary of lofty downs towards Dartmoor, with its rocky summits about the village of Hennock and the peaked top of Heytor. On a gentle eminence on the east of the town are the noble woods of Ugbrook. A range of limestone Rocks which rises at the foot of Haldon is developed in large masses at Greley, Harcombe, Upcott, Kerswell, Porcombe, terminating in the bold declivity of Chudleigh Rock.[Text may be taken from a different source or edition than that listed as the source by Somers Cocks.]
