Shapter, Thomas. The climate of the south of Devon. London: John Churchill, 1842. pp. 156-7. The general character of Budleigh Salterton is that of a small unobtrusive watering-place, affording good accommodation for those desiring a place of quiet sojourn. The houses on the strand immediately facing the sea are conveniently situated, but those on the high ground are generally preferred, except where climbing the hills is of consequence to the invalid. It is considered to be particularly healthy, and as a residence is applicable to those disordered states for which the climate of the district may be generally recommended.
