M. Billing's directory and gazetteer of the county of Devon. Birmingham: M. Billing's steam press offices, 1857. p. 232. There are two markets, on Tuesday and Friday, the latter of which is on a most extensive scale, and is well stocked with every description of produce from the neighbouring farms and villages. The market was formerly held in the High Street, but in 1855 a new and elegant structure was opened, which affords ample room for all the requirements of a market. There is an annual fair, and four great markets for cattle. At the upper end is the Corn Market, over which is the Music Hall.[Text may be taken from a different source or edition than that listed as the source by Somers Cocks.]
