Scope and Content
L., A. M. Rambles about Barnstaple, in the year 1865. Barnstaple: T. Hearson, 1865. p. 8Now, it is an undisputed fact, that in the out-door attractions and accessaries [sic] to health, Barnstaple stands pre-eminently conspicuous over any other town of its size in England; and the individual who is fortunate enough to settle down in our quiet, clean, pretty town, for a continuance, and who has made up his mind to become a sanitary reformer - as far, at least, as his own health is concerned - may give such strength to his constitution, by out-door exercise, as to render him almost impervious to the attacks of disease, and thus be enabled to pass through the later period of his existence, attended by many gratifications! The Walks around Barnstaple are exceedingly romantic and beautiful.
