Notes on verso read (the text is unreadable in many places):"The Norman tower of St Mary Major's Church. This [...] was regretted by many when the new church was built. [...] of St Mary's Yard,as also those of the adjacent Cathedral [...] place in 1867 to substantial iron fencing enclosing greensward, and at the same time narrowing the field of "Young Exeter's" operations on the 5th of Nov., the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot.
