Scope and Content
This portrait is assumed to be that of William Lavers, a Kingsbridge born lawyer and philanthropist. He practised law in Plymouth until 1869, when he retired due to ill health. Lavers spent the rest of his life in Torquay, where he died in 1894 (source: Transactions of the Devonshire Association, vol. 27 pp37-38)
