Scope and Content
At the last meeting of the Exeter City Council a proposal to increase the salaries of two officials in the Electric Lighting Department was, by a majority, deferred. During the discussion a Councillor said, "The Chief Clerk's salary has been rising automatically for the past ten or twelve years at the rate of £4 a year. The automatic machine has stopped, and wants winding up again."
